Auditions now open for The Savannah Disputation
11/28/2013, The Fishtown Players are announcing auditions for their upcoming production of Evan Smith’s heaven sent comedy, The Savannah Disputation to be performed the last 2 weeks of March at The Gorton Theatre (home of Gloucester Stage) with David McCaleb directing. They are looking for 3 woman (the lone male part has already been cast) for this 4 person play. Auditions are Mon. Dec. 9 & Tues. Dec. 10 at 6:30 pm at The Hive-11 Pleasant St. Gloucester. No monologue necessary-we will read from the script.
The Savannah Disputation is a comedy drenched in southern charm, infused with a pinch of hellfire and a dollop of damnation. Two daffy Catholic sisters find themselves in a verbal smack down with a door-to-door evangelist in their own home. Crackling with wit and brimming with emotion, what unfolds is an up-to-the-minute comedy about organized religion, faith and morals in the not-so-United States.
Melissa, a peppy, Bible-brandishing young evangelical missionary. She is a bleached blone (a wig will be provided) and pink-jacketed incarnation of over-the-top zealotry yet she should possess a touching vulnerability. Best if the actress is over 35.
Mary, a domineering and seemingly mean-spirited older sister is a pistol and a hoot. She provides a lot of the comedy. Her character does an about face later in the play when she burrows down to the reasons for her behavior and reveals herself with moving power.
Margaret, sweet and simple and a little mousy and very loyal and loving and a little addle-brained.
