A COMIC TRAGEDY IN ONE ACT
by Jay DiPrima
One could call it – “Waiting for Godot- the Sequel” as this play continues with the sacred fools (Gogo and Didi) only now they know for sure that Godot will never return. Or will s/he? This comedy is an exploration of death, of loss of a significant other, of the rituals and mental/spiritual gymnastics we humans go through in reckoning with such loss.
Set against the same barren tree in the abyss, we see not only desolation but celebration, not only the dirge but the second line parade of New Orleans as these two idiosyncratic clowns cry and laugh, but mostly laugh.
Local seasoned actors Gordon Baird (Didi) and Rory O’Connor (Gogo) will bring this new work to life in a dynamic staged reading at the new Rogers Street Theater (6 Rogers Street – lower level of Floating Lotus) on Wednesday and Thursday, July 18th & 19th at 7pm. This one hour, one-act comic tragedy was written by Jay DiPrima (narrator) with a full nod to Beckett’s original. It is meant to be an evening of existential fun.
This is a production of Fishtown Players. The program is funded in part by a grant from the Gloucester Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
Admission only $5.00
